Tiger Woods Golfing Superstar
Eldrick (Tiger) Woods was born in Cypress, California in 1975 to his dad Earl who was part African American, Chinese and Native American, and his mother Kultida who is a mixture of Thai, Chinese and Dutch.
At age 2 he appeared with his father on CBS News and then on the Mike Douglas Show, putting with Bob Hope. Even from an early age, the potential to become a super sports star could be seen.
Tiger Woods continued with golf lessons and won many tournaments throughout his teenage years. He started on the professional circuit in 1996, and he signed lucrative sponsorship deals with Nike for $40 million and Titleist for $20 million.
Today, Tiger Woods is regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time. He is currently rated number 1 and has earned a total of $110 million in winning tournaments and endorsements. He continued on to win fourteen professional golf tournaments, and 68 PGA Tour golfing events. “PGA Tiger Woods” are three words which go together very well. He is the youngest player ever to win 50 Grand Slam tournaments and he has won more PGA Tour wins than anyone else.
When Tiger Woods won the 1997 Masters Tournament, the popularity for golf increased significantly and has been attributed to Tiger’s appearance. He has been given credit for increasing the levels of prize money given and for the increase in the viewing population for golf, which drew the largest TV audiences in golfing history.
Tiger Woods has a very impressive golf swing, and every golfer would like to emulate it. He has such power and distance off the tee, because he uses a full back rotation that helps maximizes his swinging power. Your hips should be fully rotated during your swing and in the final follow through position; your hips should be pointing in the direction you need the golf ball to go. Keeping your legs sturdy, don’t start swaying and hold your body lined up on top of the ball. Do not move your wrists, arms, or shoulders as your whole body should move in synchronization. You only increase your swing speed by quickly rotating the middle of your body. Hopefully you will be able to strike the ball just as hard as he does!
In 1996 the Tiger Woods Foundation was set up to inspire kids to set goals and achieve their dreams in a supportive environment such as the Tiger Woods Learning Center. The aim is to teach kids the skills to lay their own foundations for the future and so far it has helped over 10 million people. The foundation is enhancing the lives of young people around the world through their programs and annual events.
Tiger Woods has certainly made his mark in the world of golf and other pursuits and he has earned a reputation of being a gentleman on and off the course. He is still a force to be reckoned with today and we certainly haven’t heard the last of this super sports star.
