Sports Stars Who Have Reached The Top



When we think of sports stars we think of them as being super fit athletes who are at the top of their game and are role models for our children.

Some famous sports stars get to their level of athletic ability through hard training and exercise and having the will to win. They don’t win just on their physical abilities; they also have to have the right mindset. When they begin training, they have to work out a program to get them to where they want to be. It takes many years of dedication and perseverance to get them to the top of their field, and they never give up trying.

1.    Tiger Woods – every now and then a major American sports star hits the scene and Tiger Woods is one of them. Since becoming a professional golfer in 1996, Tiger Woods has won a total of 90 tournaments, with 68 of them on the PGA Tour. He became the first ever professional golfer to win all four professional major golfing championships at the same time. From 1997 to 2008 the championships he won were the Masters Tournaments, PGA Championships, U.S. Open Championships and the British Open Championships.

2.    Roger Federer – has a current world ranking of number 1 in tennis. Swedish born Federer had held that position before, for an incredible 237 weeks in a row. He is now considered to be the greatest tennis sports star of all time. He has won 15 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any other male tennis player; he’s appeared in 20 career Grand Slam finals and made it to the semi-finals or better in the final 21 Grand Slam matches, all in the space of 5 years.

3.    David Beckham – is British and currently plays for the American Major League Soccer club, Los Angeles Galaxy and the England national team. David Beckham is the first British footballer to play 100 Champions league matches. He captained the England team from 2000 to the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He continues to play and has also become a fashion icon.

4.    Michael Phelps – is an American Olympic gold medalist in swimming and currently holds 14 Olympic gold medals and eight world records. He won eight gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, which is more than American swimmer Mark Spitz won in Munich in 1972, with a total of seven. He is regarded as a super sports star of swimming. He has unfortunately tainted his clean cut image with a dalliance in marijuana, in early 2009.

5.    Lance Armstrong – is an American professional road racing cyclist who has won the Tour de France seven years in a row from 1999 to 2005. He is a super sports star, who won his battle against testicular cancer which metastasized into his lungs and brain in 1996. His prognosis was poor after surgery, but his determination to ride kept him going. He is currently riding again in the 2009 Tour de France.

Not only are sports stars made famous through their exploits in sport, but sports stars memorabilia has become a huge business. Fans will pay thousands of dollars for anything relating to their favorite stars.
