Kylie Minogue – The Pocket Rocket!

Not many music stars have lasted in the entertainment industry as long as Kylie Minogue. Not only has she had success in the music industry, but she was also a major TV star in Australia where she was born.
Kylie Minogue had a number one hit in Australia in 1987 with “Locomotion”, and it stayed on top for seven weeks. Twenty years later Kylie was the most played artist on UK radio.
When Kylie Minogue turned seventeen, she left school to take up acting and won a role in “Neighbours” as Charlene, and became one of the most popular stars to appear on Australian TV. The relationship between Charlene and Scott (played by Jason Donovan), was followed on a daily basis and their TV wedding was watched by millions. Just out of her teens, Kylie won five Logies (the Australian equivalent of the Emmy’s), and she was the youngest actress to do so.
Since the release of Kylie Minogue’s first major hit in 1987, she has released 10 recorded studio albums and 2 live CD’s, 8 live concert DVD’s, her Greatest Hits and the Kylie double album and numerous video packages. She’s had almost 50 international hits, and has been the guest of royalty in both Britain and Europe.
Kylie Minogue’s lyrics in the majority of her songs are both memorable and catchy, so she has built a reputation as appealing to the masses. Over the last 20 years, Kylie Minogue’s songs have been played in many countries all over the world, and she has 42 consecutive U.K hits. Today Kylie is one the world’s most successful female singers. She’s also been on the covers of many of the world’s best magazines including Cosmopolitan, Rolling Stone and Vogue just to name a few.
Not only is Kylie Minogue a music star, but she’s also a TV and movie actress, and a business entrepreneur with her range of lingerie and bed linens.
Kylie Minogue’s music has certainly made her a household name in Australia and Europe, and because of her achievements she was awarded a Centenary Medal for Outstanding Contribution to The Music Industry in Australia, and for 3 years in a row she won Showbusiness Ambassador of the Year for Australia. She has also won many major awards in the UK including Top of the Pops and MTV.
In 2005, Kylie Minogue had to postpone her “Showgirl-The Greatest Hits Tour” in Australia because she was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. She spent the next 12 months focusing on her treatment and made a very emotional return to the stage in 2006, where she was given rave reviews.
In late 2007, it was announced that Kylie Minogue was to be awarded an OBE in Queen Elizabeth II’s 2008 New Years Honours list. Kylie was honoured that she had been so well accepted by her adopted country and accepted the medal from the Prince of Wales in 2008. Shortly afterwards she was named as Britain’s Best Loved Celebrity by a tabloid newspaper.
