Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz was born in San Diego, California and her father was a second generation Cuban American whose family came from Spain via Cuba. Her mother is of English, German and Cherokee heritage and she has one older brother. Cameron was devastated in 2008 when her father died.

Before she had aspirations of becoming an actress Cameron Diaz was a successful model appearing in magazines for Mademoiselle and Seventeen in ads for Calvin Klein, Levi’s and Coca Cola. Cameron knew that she wanted to do more than modeling and tried getting into acting. After twelve auditions she landed a role opposite Jim Carrey in the movie The Mask. Diaz won the audience over with her Rita Hayworth style entrance and her strong performance in the movie. Despite not being formally trained she managed to hold up against the over the top antics from Jim Carrey. The Mask took in $120 million at the box office and it made her an instant movie star.

Once she got her foot in the door, she was well on her way to become a major movie star, but along the way she acted in some low-paying roles in independent films to hone your craft.

She got her first success for her roles in My Best Friend’s Wedding and There’s Something About Mary. She was nominated for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy for There’s Something About Mary. She has since been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards SAG Awards for the film Being John Malkovich.

Cameron starred alongside Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu in the hit movie Charlie’s Angels in 2001. She became only the third actress after Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon to earn $20 million for her role in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

Other well known Cameron Diaz movies which have been box office successes are, In her Shoes, What Happens In Vegas, Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and she is set to once again be the voice of Princess Fiona in Shrek 4 due for release in 2010. 

Cameron had a three year relationship with Justin Timberlake which ended in 2007. She has since been linked to others and the latest gossip is that she split from Scottish actor Gerard Butler and is now dating British model Paul Sculfor, who is supposedly Jennifer Aniston’s ex-boyfriend!

Last month in June 2009, Cameron Diaz finally got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was able to celebrate the huge honor with her friends Lucy Liu, Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise, Nick Cassavetes and Danny Boyle. June 22nd was declared Cameron Diaz day by the mayor of Hollywood and the city council.

Cameron thanked her family for their support of her while she pursued her career and they looked out for her. Her star is located outside the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.

Cameron Diaz is a well liked movie star who takes on a variety of different roles, which she does well. She is well suited to the many comedy roles she has undertaken in her career.
