Barack Obama is the first ever African American to be elected to the White House.

Barack Obama has had a very impressive career and is a graduate of Columbia University as well as Harvard Law School. He was also the first African American President of the Harvard Law Review. He came into prominence when he ran for the 2004 United States Senate, which he won by the largest margin in Illinois history, so his profile was raised.

He began his run for the presidency in February 2007 after a close campaign run against Hilary Clinton and won the Democrat Party nomination. His celebrity status was beginning to rise. In the 2008 election, he defeated John McCain, the Republican Party candidate, and was inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States on January 20, 2009. In the first Barack Obama speech at his inauguration, he gave the people of America a sign of hope that the challenges they faced as a nation would be met head on and they would fix them together.

Barack Hussein Obama ll was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1961. His mother was an American of English descent and his father was from Kenya. When he was two years old his parents separated and eventually divorced, and his father returned to Kenya. Sadly, his father only saw Barack one more time before he was killed in a car accident in 1982.

His mother re-married an Indonesian and the family moved to Jakarta. Barack Obama attended school in Jakarta until he returned to Honolulu in 1971 to live with his maternal grandmother. His mother returned to Hawaii in 1972 and once again returned to Indonesia in 1977 where she worked as an anthropological field worker. In 1994 she returned to Hawaii and died one year later of ovarian cancer.

In 1989 Barack Obama met Michelle Robinson and she became his wife in 1992. Michelle Obama gave birth to their two delightful daughters, Malia born in 1998 and Natasha born in 2001. Both girls have adapted well to living in the White House and going to a different school. In a bid to placate his girls about the move to Washington, Barack Obama promised the girls they could have a dog, which they now have. It’s a black Portuguese water dog and they’ve named him Bo.

Barack Obama is quite often referred to as an exceptional orator and is quite often seen giving speeches without the use of notes. Internationally he is well liked and strongly supported in his policies. According to one poll conducted in May 2009, he was rated as the world’s most popular leader and the person most likely to pull the world out of the economic crisis. Any item relating to the American presidency is considered as being Obama news and the world wants to know about it.

Barack and Michelle Obama have been likened to John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline for their sense of style and their charisma. Barack Obama is without a doubt a celebrity star to watch in the future.
